BenQ have been the world's no1 manufacturer of DLP projectors for many years. Several years ago BenQ announced that they had been working on a line-up of high quality and value priced Home Cinema projectors.
The W2000 is one of the best value cinema grade projectors on the market today. It is the first projector in the new home cinema line up to feature Hollywood Rec.709 HD colour calibration. This colour calibration means that out of the box the projector delivers a picture that has been factory calibrated to the engineering standard colour format for HD material used worldwide for HD signals such as BluRay, Netflix and Foxtel. BenQ has put a lot of effort into ensuring that what you get with this projector is accurate colour - because the human eye is very colour sensitive, and the more accurate the colour - the more realistic the picture. The result is an extremely natural appearance, especially with skin tones, yet where called for by the source material, the colours are bold and rich. This is achieved by BenQ’s new 'Cinematic Color' feature. This uses some unique BenQ technology including a specially angled colour wheel, with a newly designed coating, to deliver the industry’s REC.709 video standard right out of the box, and BenQ’s engineers check the REC.709 calibration at three different stages in the production of every unit; this isn’t just some computer-generated ‘more or less’ calibration claim.
Only displays that conform to Rec. 709 can reproduce colors correctly in all images through an entire HD movie. While most projector manufacturers choose a saturated color tone bias to increase the amount of colour, resulting in color accuracy loss and consequently a less realistic picture.
Critically acclaimed for industry-leading high contrast, BenQ DLP Projectors also produce the most crisply defined sharpness for crystal-clear details and legible text by maximizing the fill ratio of individual pixels and employing exclusive BenQ SmartEco™ Technology. So with the W2000 you get class leading HD colour accuracy coupled to high contrast and sharpness making for a picture that is comparable to much more expensive models from other leading brands. For the cinema purist it is also handy to note that the W2000 is ISFccc Certified and can be ISF calibrated - this is a feature normally only found on projectors costing a lot more. The W2000 is also compatible with 3D and incorporates a very low lag time making it excellent for gaming on the big screen.
As more people are incorporating a Home Cinema Projector into their entertainment options at home, it is important to note that nearly all projectors have a lamp that needs to be replaced periodically. Most projectors need their lamp replaced after approximately 3000 - 4000 hours of use. In the case of the BenQ W2000 the lamp has been designed to last up to 6 000 hours of use! Also impressive is that a BenQ replacement lamp is under $300 whereas some competing brands the lamp costs double that. As it is a single chip DLP projector there are no panel alignment or degradation issues and once you replace the lamp, the picture quality is back to nearly 100% of original factory quality, unlike other technologies where the panels degrade over time causing loss of contrast and colour accuracy.
